The Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Project Management (MSM-PM) is a 48-credit-hour program offered online and at both Colorado campuses. The program includes 28 credit hours devoted to the management core and 20 credit hours for the project management concentration.

This program is for students who may not have an undergraduate degree in business, yet want to study project management. This concentration is designed to help the student develop the skills and knowledge of an effective project manager, including time/conflict management; teams and HR management; risk analysis and management; scheduling techniques; organizations and processes; cost, budgeting, and scheduling; procurement and contracting; and control systems implementation. Program content covers key areas contained in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK^® Guide), considered to be the industry standard.

This program does not lead to additional licensure or certification. As such, CTU has made no determination regarding prerequisites for licensure or certification in any state or jurisdiction.

Presented with a scenario, students focus on analyzing published research, databases, and statistics to recommend management strategies based upon business metrics. MGMT607 The course analyzes the concepts of organizational behavior and how to integrate socio-technical concepts and tools in organizational settings. As part of the course, students consider the cultural norms and behaviors necessary to help the organization succeed. MGMT640 This course provides an overview of the issues and decisions involved in the production of goods and services. This course emphasizes the latest approaches, methods and systems to ensure management success under demanding cost, schedule, and performance requirements. As such it focuses on production design, enterprise planning, production scheduling, implementation and the control of production systems. Concepts examined include operations strategies, process analysis, quality and improvement, planning and control, inventory management, risk control systems, and supply chain management. It explores how managers use marketing plans, programs, and strategies from an international and culturally competent perspective. Within the marketing strategy framework, it also examines data analytics, digital marketing, brand awareness, promotion, and pricing strategies. PJM620 This course provides students with an opportunity to apply different approaches to project scheduling and control. Students explore how to balance scope, time, and cost by utilizing tools and techniques. Specific project management tools covered include Gantt chart, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), Milestone Charts, Critical Path Method (CPM), Critical Path (CP), Earned Value Management (EVM), Burn down charts, Net Present Value (NPV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). PJM630 This course provides an overview of procurement and contract management in project management. It examines the full life cycle of project procurement as it relates to both the buyer and the seller. Topics covered include bidding (RFQs, IFBs, and RFPs), contracts (fixed price, cost plus, time and materials), and the impact on project risk and contract negotiation. PJM670 As project management has transitioned into a central focus of all business practices, the approach to managing projects has also evolved. This course explores various project management methods including waterfall, agile, and other hybrid methods. The course also examines the principles, approaches, and practices that guide each method. When and where can I begin my classes?

Courses for the Master of Science in Management in Project Management start online and on our Colorado Springs campus approximately every five weeks. Completion of the CTU admissions process will depend on how quickly you complete the steps in the CTU online application process. You may complete the application process over the phone with an advisor or you may go online. Once you’ve completed the online application, you may hear from an advisor within the following 24 hours to discuss the next steps toward starting your degree program. Master’s programs may have additional entrance requirements that take additional processing time.

How many credits are required to graduate from a master’s degree program?

The Master of Science in Management in Project Management degree program consists of 48 credits. You may be eligible for transfer credit, which is evaluated on an individual basis. Not all credits are eligible to transfer.
